Christian Appalachian Project Hosts Emergency Shelter Trainings
APPALACHIA – (May 11, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) recently hosted emergency shelter trainings in Rockcastle and Floyd Counties, educating volunteer trainees on the various aspects of effectively and efficiently running an emergency shelter during a natural disaster. Fifty one CAP staff members, volunteers, and members of the community participated in these trainings.
Georgia-based mission donates 5,000 pairs of new shoes to Christian Appalachian Project
Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing Program received a donation of 5,000 pairs of new children’s shoes from Rabbi Greg’s Shoe by Shoe Mission, based in Macon, Georgia. Operation Sharing will distribute the shoes to its community partners, which include nonprofit organizations, community-based agencies, churches, and schools, that will help provide the shoes to children in need.
Students spend spring break repairing homes for Appalachian families
APPALACHIA – (April 13, 2022) Students from around the country spent their spring break in Appalachia repairing homes in Eastern Kentucky which marked the 30-year anniversary of WorkFest with Christian Appalachian Project (CAP). This week of service helped 11 participant families with repairs that were to extensive or expensive to complete on their own.
Save A Lot donates to Grateful Bread Food Pantry
MOUNT VERNON, Ky. – (March 29, 2022) Save A Lot partners with Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Grateful Bread Food Pantry to serve the community. The store recently donated to the pantry after being recognized by its parent company as a top location in its annual Bags for a Brighter Holiday food donation program.
JAG KY serves local community
MT. VERNON, Ky. – (February 15, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) is partnering with the Jobs for America’s Graduates Kentucky (JAG KY) program at Rockcastle County High School to help students learn important job skills through volunteer service. Students visited CAP’s Grateful Bread Food Pantry today to help distribute commodity food boxes to seniors in Rockcastle County.

Kentucky State Troopers donate food to Grateful Bread Food Pantry
APPALACHIA – (December 17, 2021) Kentucky State Police Troopers Scottie Pennington and Richie Baxter and Detective Ryan Loudermilk surprised staff at Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Grateful Bread Food Pantry with a donation of 1,041 pounds of food to help local families this winter.
Overnight tornadoes devastate Western Kentucky
LEXINGTON – (December 11, 2021) Deadly tornadoes hit the western part of Kentucky with severe weather in additional areas of the state. Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) is monitoring the situation to determine how to help when the state’s Emergency Management Team clears the way for teams to deploy. CAP is also working to coordinate the efforts of partner agencies to provide essential supplies as soon as possible.
Cryptocurrency makes change possible at nonprofit serving Appalachia
APPALACHIA – (December 9, 2021) Supporters of Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) now have a new way to help meet needs in Appalachia: cryptocurrency. As donors consider end-of-year charitable giving, CAP staff have worked to make donating to CAP easy and help donors save on their taxes.
Carson-Myre Charitable Foundation named 2021 Philanthropist of the Year
APPALACHIA – (Nov. 18, 2021) Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) selected Carson-Myre Charitable Foundation as their 2021 Philanthropist of the Year during a virtual National Philanthropy Day celebration hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The foundation was recognized for their support which has enabled CAP to pursue its mission to build hope, transform lives, and share Christ’s love through service in Appalachia.
