Christian Appalachian Project Mobilizes to Help Tornado Survivors
APPALACHIA (May 20, 2025) – Multiple tornadoes left a path of destruction across Eastern Kentucky in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 17. Whole neighborhoods were flattened in and around London and Somerset, Kentucky with numerous fatalities reported.
Christian Appalachian Project gives update on disaster relief efforts in Eastern Tennessee
APPALACHIA – (October 30, 2024) Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Disaster Relief program helped 24 families recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Fifty-seven volunteers, mainly from Kentucky, came together to support families in Eastern Tennessee. They put in more than 3,200 volunteer hours to assess homes and clean out debris and items soaked by floodwaters.
Christian Appalachian Project’s Operation Sharing serves 12,000 children during summer distributions CAP, Marine Toys for Tots, and Good360 partner for fifth year
APPALACHIA (July 30, 2024) – Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing program
served 12,000 children and their families during a series of distributions this summer done in
partnership with Marine Toys for Tots and Good360. CAP has partnered with the two
organizations since 2020 to distribute toys, as well as other essential items, to Appalachian
communities. This summer, around 40,000 toys and up to $5 million worth of essential items
were distributed through the partnership.

Christian Appalachian Project’s Operation Sharing partners with New St. Hurricane Baptist Church Nonprofits serve the community with distribution
Pine Bluff, AR (June 12, 2024) – Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing program is partnering with Hurricane Outreach Distribution Center and New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church to provide toys, household items, snacks and more to families in the community.
Cars are expected to start lining up several hours before the drive thru community distribution which will be held at Golden Lion Stadium Parking Lot, 2200 North University Drive from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event is open to the public.
Christian Appalachian Project’s Operation Sharing partners with Hazel Green Food Project
West Liberty, Ky. (May 15, 2024) – Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing program partnered with Hazel Green Food Project to provide food and other essential items to 651 families from 10 different counties. Operation Sharing partners with smaller charities like Hazel Green to extend the impact into additional Appalachian communities.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – (Nov. 8, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) selected Shanna and John Elliott and Pat Huff as their 2023 Philanthropists of the Year during the National Philanthropy Day celebration. The family was recognized for more than 20 years of generous support of CAP’s mission of building hope, transforming lives, and sharing Christ’s love through service in Appalachia. This annual event is hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Christian Appalachian Project announces RISE and Shine Campaign
