Christian Appalachian Project Announces 2022 Champions of Appalachia
APPALACHIA – (Oct. 13, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) has selected Southland Christian Church and Thomas Vierheller, Ph.D., as its 2022 Champions of Appalachia. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have had a positive, long-term impact in the lives of people in the region.
CAP collects 11,880 Pounds of Food During Annual Hunger Walk
APPALACHIA – (September 21, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Grateful Bread Food Pantry partnered with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to spotlight food insecurity in Eastern Kentucky. The annual Hunger Walk is held each September and this year collected 11,880 pounds of food which will be used to help families in need in CAP’s service area.
CAP distributes $6.2 million in goods, contributes over 14,000 volunteer hours in flood relief efforts
MARTIN, Ky. – (August 31, 2022) Families impacted by floods that struck Eastern Kentucky over a month ago still need help to put their lives back together. Employees and volunteers from Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing, Disaster Relief, Mission Groups, and Home Repair Programs are working daily to identify and meet those needs.
Nexstar Media Television Stations Raise More Than $300,000 for Flood Relief
IRVING, TX (Aug. 15, 2022) – Nexstar television stations across the country today concluded a 10-day fundraising drive to assist victims affected by the recent flooding that has devastated Eastern Kentucky. The participating stations collectively raised more than $300,000 for the effort, capped off with a $25,000 donation from the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation to the Kentucky Flood Relief Fund of the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP).

MARTIN, Ky. – (August 9, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Disaster Relief Program has opened a distribution center at 6134 KY-80 in Martin, Kentucky. The center will provide essential items like cleaning supplies, water, and diapers to local residents impacted by recent flooding.
Disaster Relief Efforts Meeting Needs Across Multiple Counties
MARTIN, Ky. – (August 5, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Disaster Relief Program is coordinating volunteers and donated goods to assist families in need in Knott, Perry, and Floyd Counties. A command center at Foley Mission Center in Martin, Kentucky is the staging ground for relief efforts by CAP and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as they work to coordinate assistance in Eastern Kentucky.

CAP Prepares to Assist Flood Victims
APPALACHIA – (July 29, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Disaster Relief Program and Operation Sharing Program are coordinating efforts after devastating flooding struck multiple Kentucky counties, affecting more than 100,000 people.
First responders are on the ground conducting search and rescue, but more rain is expected in the coming days. CAP is standing by and is prepared to help once the water has receded and teams can conduct assessments.
Grateful Threadz Thrift Store Reopens
MOUNT VERNON, Ky. – (June 7, 2022) Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Grateful Threadz Thrift Store reopened on Monday to the delight of shoppers and staff. The store originally opened in 2012 to provide affordable clothing and household items to the Mt. Vernon community, but closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
