Service Trips

Ready to roll up your sleeves? We welcome businesses looking for teamworking opportunities, churches seeking domestic mission trips, social clubs wanting to give back, and even groups of friends searching for a meaningful way to connect on vacation. Whether you are a group of two or twenty, your group can make homes safe, warm, dry, and accessible for our participants. Just one visit and you’ll want to make it an annual tradition!

Program Details

CAP hosts service groups for one-week trips in March-October of each year. Groups come from churches, schools, families, businesses, etc. to serve alongside our full-time Home Repair crews and provide families in need with homes that are safe, warm, and dry. In March and April of each year, programming is dedicated specifically to alternative spring break for college (WorkFest) and high school (YouthFest) students.

What to Expect

  • Mission Groups can be anywhere from 5 to 30 members in size. All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.
  • Groups arrive on Sunday, serve Monday through Thursday, and depart on Friday.
  • Registration and per-person fees are required for incoming groups. (Contact us for details)
  • Included in the registration fee are pre-arrival resources, on-site orientation by a CAP staff member, lodging, meals, and some evening programming. Additionally, registration fees help provide service site materials, tools, and supervision by CAP staff.
  • No home repair experience is required as our crew leaders provide the necessary training on site. Groups will also be asked to bring vehicles suitable for daily transport to the job site.

“There are many things about CAP that have kept us coming back for 14 consecutive years. We love the relationships we have developed with staff and volunteers and that we get to share in CAP’s mission of helping the people of Appalachia in the name of Jesus.”

"Our students get to see that limited material resources are not (in and of themselves) an impediment to happiness. Their experiences on the jobsites give them a new view of what they can accomplish when they work together to pursue an important goal.”

How to Get Started

It's simple! Groups interested in joining CAP for a mission trip can start by choosing potential dates and then contacting our Groups Coordinator at groups@chrisapp.org or 859.339.9094 for date availability. Groups will then need to complete a registration form, submit a deposit, and complete additional paperwork (including background checks).
