Nonprofit partners reach across state lines to help people in need

DUNLOW, WV. – All across the nation, communities have been impacted by the economic downturn brought on by coronavirus restrictions. Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing has partnered with Cabwaylingo Appalachian Mission to ensure that the community has what it needs.  

Grateful Bread Food Pantry serves increased need

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. — Staff at Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) have been working to address rising needs in the region as more families need the services of CAP’s Grateful Bread Food Pantry. Additional families are signing up each day to receive assistance, while employees and volunteers continue to ensure that needs are met for children and their families and seniors who need food.

CAP summer camp goes online during COVID-19

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. -- Due to social distancing protocols put in place to flatten the curve related to the spread of COVID-19, Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) will not be offering residential (overnight) or day camp at either Camp AJ or Camp Shawnee this summer. CAP will be offering virtual camp and will be sharing additional details in the coming weeks.

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — As the country continues to face unprecedented needs in the face of Coronavirus, nonprofits like Christian Appalachian Project find creative ways to serve vulnerable populations like children and their families, as well as seniors, living in Eastern Kentucky.

Local School district partners with food pantry to meet needs in community

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. — Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) and the Rockcastle County School District have had a long-standing partnership to serve students and their families. This foundation opened doors to continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable populations under the constraints of guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control to limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Latter-Day Saints Charities donates 42,000 pounds of food to help communities in Appalachia

CORBIN, Ky. — The Latter-Day Saints Charities have partnered with Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) to help people in need in Eastern Kentucky. The Latter-Day Saints donated 27 pallets totaling 42,000 pounds of food.

Rob and Brittany Lawson honored by CAP as 2019 Philanthropists of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) selected Rob and Brittany Lawson as their 2019 Philanthropists of the Year during the annual National Philanthropy Day celebration hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The couple were recognized for their years of service and financial support provided to CAP in pursuit of its mission to build hope, transform lives, and share Christ’s life through service in Appalachia.

Lowe’s associates volunteer with CAP as part of Give Back Time initiative

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) has worked with Lowe’s to address substandard housing issues in Eastern Kentucky. Through the company’s Give Back Time initiative, Lowe’s associates use volunteer hours provided by Lowe’s to make a difference in their local community.

Honorees celebrated as 2019 Champions of Appalachia

BEREA, Ky. — Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) has selected John and Jean Rosenberg with Appalachian Research and Defense Fund (AppalReD), and Texas Roadhouse as its 2019 Champions of Appalachia. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have had a positive, long-term impact in the lives of people in Appalachia.
