Count Me In!

It was amazing seeing Linda (we haven't seen each other since the 90s)! We definitely remained kindred spirits, with our hearts both moving in the same direction in life after CAP-- Social Work!

Let me tell you how we roll:
I was camping in West Virginia when I saw the Facebook post in the CAP volunteer alumni group about the flood and the call for assistance to help the survivors. Well, I can camp anytime, but right now "my peeps" could use a few more hands! So, I got my gear packed up and came right on to Martin! After arriving on Sunday, I texted Linda, along with a dozen other former volunteers, and told them that our CAP family needs us, needs YOU, for the Disaster Relief team! If you can't come, do your part by passing this on to every former volunteer you know!

It wasn't long before responses to my text began coming in... a few could donate, most would pray, and then there was Linda with
"Count me in! Got to arrange things at work and will be there tomorrow!"

Being with Linda again, working with other CAP folks with whom I previously served (Gloria Jordan and Ken Stuber!), as well as helping alongside all the new-to-me CAP faces, was so much more than just being amidst old and new friends-- it was like coming home to my family!

The week I spent with DR was challenging and exhausting, both physically and mentally, but it helped me find my spirit for being alive that I had lost somewhere along life's way. I was so close to giving up (literally!), but coming home to CAP was a life changing -- life saving --experience for me.

I was so honored and humbled (and truthfully, disaster aside, over-joyed!) to serve as the hands, feet, and voice of mercy, love, and grace with this incredible group of people called the Christian Appalachian Project- a people I call family, a place where I call home!
