Spring Break Services

Each March and April, CAP hosts college students for WorkFest and high school students for YouthFest. These mission-based service opportunities are offered during spring break. Students work alongside experienced crew leaders on Home Repair projects in Appalachia. No experience necessary. CAP provides meals, lodging, materials, and training.

CAP Day of Prayer

CAP Day of Prayer coincides with the National Day of Prayer held annually on the first Thursday in May. The national event began during President Harry Truman’s administration. CAP launched its official Day of Prayer observance in 1996 to bring together employees, volunteers, donors, and supporters to recognize God’s faithfulness in the fulfillment of CAP’s mission. We also come together to pray for our participants, donors, employees, volunteers, partners, CAP leadership, and the Appalachian region.

Hunger Walk

September is Hunger Action Month, and Hunger Walk takes place each year on the third Thursday of the month. Hunger Walk’s mission is to collect food items and funds to help CAP’s food pantry network continue to fight hunger and feed hope in Appalachia. CAP’s food pantries include Grateful Bread food pantry in Rockcastle County; Eagle Food Pantry in McCreary County; and our partner pantry, Water Into Wine, in Magoffin County.

Registration for Hunger Walk will open August 1

Champions of Appalachia

Since the 1960s, Appalachia has a high poverty rate and a higher percentage of working poor than the rest of the nation. In 1999, roughly a quarter of the counties in the region qualified as "distressed", the worst status ranking by the Appalachian Regional Commission. One out of every 3 people in Appalachia suffers from poverty. CAP strives to lift up people in need in these areas. CAP Champions of Appalachia award recognizes individuals and organizations that have had a positive, long-term impact in the lives of people in Appalachia.

Prayer Requests
