Ichthus 2010: Faith in Action

Submitted by CAP Volunteer on Thu, 06/24/2010

This past week I got to experience Ichthus, which is a 4 day festival that includes Christian bands and speakers. This was the first time I have ever been to Ichthus but I've been to a similar event in New Hampshire called Soul-fest, which is basically the same thing. It was an awesome time to see bands and listen to speakers and experience worship services as well. By the end of this weekend I was pretty exhausted but it was definitely a good tired. CAP had a big presence at the festival and was in charge of security, a shower trailer which provided clean and hot showers and we also had two different tables set up for recruitment. Even though we had long days it was a great experience to get to know many new people who volunteered with CAP at Ichthus.

The weather for the festival was pretty amazing. I mean the days were mostly sunny and in the mid 90's. So we definitely perspired a lot but we did get some rain Saturday morning but not enough to stop the festival. I would have to say my favorite part of the festival was when we did get the rain on Saturday morning because at about 7:30 in the morning (when most of us were still sleeping), Sherry (who was in charge all CAP things at Ichthus) comes running in the main tent telling us we all have to evacuate the tent because there is a large storm coming. So of course we all jump up from our cots because we have no idea what's going on and the sky is pretty black. But luckily the storm broke up and we only got a little thunder and lightening and it was all gone by about 10:30.

Favorite parts of Ichthus:

Tent City

Evacuation from main tent
Worship services
Spending time with other volunteers
Meeting new people and spreading the word about CAP
Driving a golf cart
Being attacked by ants every night
Getting no more than 5 hours of sleep a night
Not showering for 5 days

Overall Ichthus experience: FANTASTIC!!!!!
