Camp Shawnee

Camp Shawnee is a wilderness retreat of 300 acres, located on the banks of Dewey Lake in Floyd County, Kentucky. It serves those who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend a summer camp, and many children look forward to it as their only vacation of the year. Camp gives boys and girls opportunities to make friends, learn skills, and grow as individuals.

Camp AJ

Camp AJ is nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest in McKee, Kentucky. Surrounded by a beautiful forest, the full-service facility has a small lake for children to play in. It provides a rewarding week of learning and adventure for approximately 1,000 Appalachian children. Children are encouraged to participate in fun, outdoor activities and learn essential leadership skills.

In-Home Respite

Christian Appalachian Project’s In-Home Respite services give parents — and other primary care providers of individuals with disabilities — the opportunity to take a short break. An experienced CAP staff member visits the home regularly and cares for the individuals with disabilities while the primary caregiver addresses necessary family or personal needs.

In-School Education

Christian Appalachian Project’s In-School Education Program consists of eight week-long learning sessions covering important topics like anger management and character building. CAP educators also provide academic tutoring and assist with after-school programs.

School Readiness Program

Education is one of the keys to breaking the cycle of poverty in Appalachia. Our School Readiness Program provides new clothing, school supplies, and other necessities that parents cannot afford throughout the school year. Equipped with these tools, children can attend school with enthusiasm and encouragement.

Parents Are Teachers

Our philosophy is “the parent is the child’s best teacher.” This home-based, early intervention program serves infants and children who have defined disabilities or developmental delays or are at risk for delays. Parents Are Teachers offers parents the education they need to actively engage their child in activities to help develop their social, cognitive, sensory, and motor skills.

Family Life Counseling

We offer outpatient mental health counseling for an average of 1,000 men, women, and children each year. Services are focused on restoring families by strengthening the family unit and caring for each individual’s emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being.

Child & Family Development Centers

Lessons learned in the early years will be carried by children for the rest of their lives. Both Family Life and Eagle Child & Family Development Centers offer young children opportunities to reach their highest potential by providing cognitive, physical, spiritual, and emotional support. We also provide parents with the resources they need to help their children grow and learn.

Christmas Baskets

Share in the joy of Christmas with families in need in Appalachia by sending toys, clothing, and other Christmas gifts. During the weeks leading up to Christmas, participant families gather together for a celebration consisting of prayers, a retelling of the Christmas story, and distribution of donated gifts.
