A Tradition of Service
Students from Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio, recently spent their spring break in Eastern Kentucky, making homes safe, warm, and dry for children, their families, and seniors in the region. Mount St. Joseph students joined other college students from across the country who are participating in Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) annual WorkFest, an alternative spring break program that addresses substandard housing in Appalachia.
CAP in the News: Building Hope During WorkFest
CAP is building hope during WorkFest 2023 by repairing homes that were damaged in the July Floods of 2022. Buddy Forbes reports on these projects.
A Listening Ear
It’s common for people in Appalachia to live on the same land or in the same community as their parents, grandparents, even their great-grandparents lived. In a region steeped in tradition as old as the Appalachian Mountains, the people here are proud of who they are and where they come from.

Making Christmas Possible
Thousands of children, their families, and seniors in Eastern Kentucky lost their homes, belongings, and in some cases their communities to the July flooding. The road to recovery is a marathon, not a sprint, and CAP’s programs are in it for the long haul.
The Power of Partnerships
As January snowflakes mark the six-month anniversary of the devastating 2022 floods in Eastern Kentucky, Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Operation Sharing program continues to work with its partner network of more than 1,300 school, churches, nonprofits, and community-based agencies to distribute donated materials to people who need it most during ongoing recovery efforts.
