You're GROUNDED!!!!

By Kate Stefanowicz

"You're Grounded" has been a very popular phrase this week at CAP. And it also doesn't mean what most people think of when they hear this phrase. For us at CAP, it means all of our CAP vehicles are to stay put at the volunteer houses. Therefore this first week back from the holidays has been pretty crazy with snow or bad weather almost every day this week. So when I first heard that we were getting snow and all the schools had shut down I thought we would be getting a decent amount, maybe 5 or more inches. Since in Connecticut this is usually the minimum to constitute all the schools shutting down, but in Kentucky it's a little different. At one time I think the most we got was about 3inches, so I was a little disappointed since you can't really make a snowman or have a good snow ball fight with that amount of snow. But don't worry--we did get a sledding trip in. Myself and three other volunteers decided to make some homemade sleds out of cardboard and garbage bags. And let me tell you I think they made better sleds than some of the ones I've bought from the store for 20 bucks.

So with all this snow and being grounded you might ask what we do? Well of course we went sledding, caught up on a lot of reading, watched a lot of movies and did some hardcore cleaning of our kitchen. So even though we were all cooped up in our house for a few days, we managed to keep ourselves busy as well as get some much needed relaxation time in.

When not sledding, Kate is a long-term volunteer in CAP's Housing Program. She lives in Floyd Volunteer House.
