After their home took on a foot of water during historic flooding in Eastern Kentucky, the Patton family received funds from CAP to stay at a hotel while they tried to find help for their home repairs. But when the funds ran out, the two children, Marcy and Tyler, along with their mom and dad, Lois and Jake, had no choice but to move back into their home, which had suffered extensive damage. The flood water had rotted the flooring and walls as well as the lower cabinets in the kitchen. There was no heating or cooling, and the moisture inside caused the ceiling to partially collapse.

 

One of CAP’s corporate partners — MEI Total Elevator Solutions — sent volunteers who worked quickly to repair the Patton family’s home, replacing the ceiling, walls, and floors. They also installed new insulation inside to ensure the home can stay warm in winter and cool in the summer. “Thank goodness for MEI and our other groups and volunteers for coming and helping with these efforts,” said Ron Marrow, a crew leader in CAP’s Housing Program. “We are blessed to have so many hands willing to do the needed work. With their help, we have been able to assist more families in need and give them a sense of normalcy again.”

 

It was only through your generous support that these dedicated volunteers were able to make the Patton family’s home safe, warm, dry, and livable again.Your gifts also helped CAP’s Housing Program serve many other families with disaster relief and recovery since the floods hit in early March of last year. “Several families are facing the same problems. They more or less have to return to their same homes whether they are fixed or not,” explained Ron. Thanks to you, after the initial floods, CAP’s Housing and Disaster Relief Programs completed 160 home assessments and had teams working tirelessly on the ground in Eastern Kentucky communities surrounding Floyd, Johnson, Rockcastle, and Lawrence counties.
