When Hope Feels Out of Reach, Your Love Prevails

Josie and Edgar never imagined their golden years would be spent living out of a car. For decades, they called a little rented farmhouse home. But when the owner passed away, his children sold the farm. With no family, Josie and Edgar suddenly had nowhere to go.

When Josie walked into CAP’s Grateful Bread Food Pantry, her eyes spoke volumes: exhaustion, defeat, and fear. Sherri, the pantry coordinator, helped Josie choose nonperishable foods the couple could manage without a kitchen.

As they carried the bags to the car, Josie broke down. “I’m just too tired to keep on going. How do we start over at our age?”

“My heart broke,” Sherri said. She prayed with them, offered compassion, and shared resources that could help. “They left with a lot more hope and a little less stress.”

For Josie and Edgar, your generosity turned into more than just food from a pantry. You shared hope when it was needed most and reminded a loving elderly couple in need that they are not alone.
