Science Night
As volcanoes erupted at CAP’s Child and Family Development Center (CFDC) on March 29, the children didn’t run for cover or tremble in fear. They cheered, “Again, again, again!”
At the beginning of each school year, parents fill out a survey of the family fun activities they would like to participate in over the year. One of the selected activities this year was Science Night.
CFDC staff worked diligently to transform the classroom into a science lab. Stations were set up with different experiments for the scientists to conduct. Parents, siblings, and the students arrived that evening to the laboratory.
Students tested the limits of gravity, discovered whether an orange will float or sink, created a chemical reaction, caused a volcanic eruption, and created geysers.
The parents and children had a wonderful time thinking, problem solving, and watching as the experiments worked.
After the scientists finished conducting their experiments, they were treated to grilled cheeseburgers.
Often, many of the families we serve aren’t able to afford an evening of fun for their families. The talented staff at the CFDC’s make an effort to supplement that need for family bonding through activities like science night, bowling outings, or fall festivals throughout the school year. Most of the families attend when an opportunity arises. Science Night was yet another successful family fun event!
