New Buses

For some nonprofit organizations that serve children, bus transportation might be considered a luxury, limited to occasional field trips or special events. But at CAP’s Child Development Centers (CDC), buses are a cornerstone to daily participation, as they are frequently the only means by which a child is able to attend or return home. Our centers offer early childhood learning (pre-K) as well as after-school programs for children and teens throughout the school year.

So it was truly a time of thanksgiving and celebration when each of our two
Child Development Centers received a new school bus in January! The existing models were 12 to 14 years old and had high mileage and the beginnings of mechanical issues. Thanks to the generosity of the David Scaife Family Foundation and the
David and Helen Horn Foundation, CAP was able to purchase twin, 2013 international models. Each bus is equipped with heating and air conditioning and has increased fuel efficiency and extra safety features, such as an alarm system that assures all children have departed the vehicle.

The buses will also be used to transport summer campers to and from their week at camp when school is out, and they will transport senior participants to the grocery and doctor appointments.

The managers and children in CAP’s CDC programs are very excited. One CDC manager exclaimed, “A brand new bus — wow!”
