Volunteer Recruitment

Meet Alex!

My name is Alexander Pinarreta, I am a Long-Term volunteer with the Christian Appalachian Project. I first came to CAP during an alternative spring break trip (WorkFest) in March with my school, the University of Scranton, and I was hooked from that point on. I was a participant in Workfest when I heard about one of CAP's Summer Camps, Camp Shawnee. After learning more about Camp Shawnee I knew I had to volunteer there.

I was a college student who recently graduated and didn’t have any set plan of what I was going to do once I finished school. I knew camp would be a great way to continue to serve. And once I was there, I immediately felt that I could serve for a year. I am with the Camp Shawnee program, where we run a summer camp over a six-week period at our remarkable camp, as well as going into schools and presenting on a multitude of topics, as well as offering tutoring services in school and after school to students. We see so many students throughout the entire year that it is truly a blessing to be able to be a part of this program and reach out to so many people. I am from New Bedford, Massachusetts, so a long way way from home. I look forward to my year here at CAP and being able to have an effect on as many people as possible!

Alex is a Long-Term Volunteer and AmeriCorps Member and is serving at Camp Shawnee in Floyd County. He lives at the Johnson House with 6 other volunteers. To learn more about CAP's volunteer opportunities email: volunteer@chrisapp.org.
