Adam Rosys has grown up through Christian Appalachian Project’s (CAP) Youth Empowerment Services Program (YES). For 13 years, he has spent his summers at Camp Shawnee, and he will continue that tradition this summer as not only a camp counselor, but a high school graduate. 

Rosys credits his success this school year to his involvement in CAP’s YES Program, which is composed of summer camp, the Teen Leadership Program, and in-school services. In the program he has been a camper, a teen leader, and a junior counselor. For several Appalachian youth, the staff and volunteers of YES pour into their lives and strive to inspire and empower them. 

“The highlight of my school year, other than my graduation, was getting first honors several times as well as second honors. I was pretty proud of that,” Rosys said. “YES has done a lot for me and has shaped me into the person I am today.”
For his upcoming summer at camp as a counselor, Rosys hopes to make this year’s group of campers have a memorable experience on the mountain at Camp Shawnee just as he had as a child. 

“I’ve always wanted to be a camp counselor,” he said. “This summer my main goal is to have fun at camp and show our campers a fun time.”

Just as he loved to do as a camper, he looks forward to helping the campers hike and do arts and crafts. He is also excited to make new friends among the other counselors who he will be working with this summer. 

“The staff of the YES Program have taught me how to work together with a team,” Rosys said. “YES has helped me meet new people I may not have had the chance to meet otherwise and helped my critical thinking.”

Once he finishes his summer as camp counselor, Rosys plans to head to college to become an architect. In his free time, he enjoys puzzles, puzzle games, mysteries, anything that involves critical thinking, and watching movies.
