Kentucky novelties, recruiting and the picnic table that wasn't

Ever since I came to Kentucky, there is one place that I wanted to visit before I left. I wasn't able to visit it last year so last week when I had the chance to go the ORIGINAL KFC, it was like a dream come true. Amy Schill (CAP's Volunteer Recruiter) and I were on our way back from a service fair in Knoxville, Tennessee, and the original KFC just so happened to be on our way home. Amy had visited the original KFC before and was willing to stop so I could check it out for myself. I was expecting this grand KFC dedicated to Colonel Sanders, but really it was a normal looking KFC with a museum attached to it showing the original kitchen and other cool looking items such as an old cash register and recipe book and much more. So of course there I was standing in the restaurant taking pictures on my cell phone of all the cool looking memorabilia. Therefore at the end of this trip I was very satisfied that I was able to cross this task off my list. You can check out my other KFC pictures at the bottom of this post.

Anyway back to why we were in Tennessee. There was a service fair at UT Knoxville and Amy was attending and I asked to tag along and she graciously allowed me to. It was cool to see a different part of CAP that I don't see on a daily basis. We got to Knoxville around 1 o'clock and set up our table amongst all the other local service groups, we then grabbed a quick lunch and headed back to our table. There was a good amount of students that attended the fair and we had some good conversations with a few of them and after it was over we attended a service panel which consisted of five different service organizations including CAP. I thought the panel was very interesting because I got to learn more about the other organizations that were there which was cool because I knew of most them but didn't really know about what exactly the organizations did. So after the panel was over we began our trek back. So all in all it was a good day--I got to see the recruiting aspect of CAP and I visited the original KFC.

So in my last post I mentioned that Bethanie and I had started building a picnic table. Well we are still in the process of building it. We probably ran into every problem you could think of when building this table, so if you want to know how NOT to build a picnic table you can contact either one of us and we will let you know. As of right now it is about halfway complete, we just need to put the table top on and put some added supports on the benches, so hopefully by my next post I will have pictures of our completed picnic table which will hopefully get some use before the cold weather gets here!
For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. (Matthew 25:14-15)
