I saw God at Camp Shawnee

I saw God at Camp Shawnee.

I met him in the morning as the sun rose to disperse the beautiful cloud that had nestled on our mountain during the night. I saw His hand on the pulse of each volunteer counselor as they so willing went about His work. I saw him in the faces--so many children's faces each one precious to Him and to us. I felt His presence in the electric atmosphere of the activities that only camp provides. I experienced His loving care ministered through the nurses, cooks, and CAP people who were "on the hill." He sustained us through the heat and loved us the most when we were totally exhausted and yet managed to smile at one more challenge, presented by an unknowing camper. He gave us the strength to meet every need and resources to answer all those "camper questions." I was amazed at His power in the thunderstorms and lightening and accepted this opportunity to comfort His children. I was equally amazed with the night sky, which seems closer to Him ' on the hill' than anyplace. Trees and rocks and water and beautiful sunsets over our mountain--all His creation given over for an unforgettable summer with Him and the children of Kentucky. Memories to last lifetime, carried away in hearts of each ,with overflowing joy because--I saw God at Camp Shawnee. Grateful to each who shared the summer and to all through their time and donations that make it possible.

Pat P. has been a cook for Camp Shawnee for three years. She is coming back this summer to make it four years. Interested in learning more about how to be a counselor this summer? Click here to learn more.
