Expand your horizons: Apply to be a long-term CAP Volunteer

It's not too late to apply to be a long-term Christian Appalachian Project Volunteer for 2012-13. We are currently reviewing applications for volunteers wishing to make a 12-month commitment beginning in August or September. Long-term volunteers commit themselves to the values of Service, Community, and Spirituality: CAP Volunteers serve 40 hours per week, live in intentional community with 4-15 other volunteers, and have the opportunity to deepen their faith through daily devotional time. We are seeking compassionate, mature, independent, and self-starting individuals to tackle eastern Kentucky's most persistent challenges. Positions are still available in the following programs:

Housing: Volunteers assist the employee crew leader in home repairs and new construction.  Must be able to climb roofs and serve outside in all seasons. Although no previous construction experience is necessary, long-term volunteers will be expected to act as assistant crew leaders for groups of 3-10 people throughout the year.

Domestic Abuse Center: CAP shelters provide 24-hour safe shelter for female survivors of domestic violence and their children. Services include safety planning and assistance with court and legal matters, referrals to community resources for available services and benefits, life skills classes, advocacy services within the shelter as well as outreach services to educate and promote awareness within the service area. Volunteers provide programming and activities for children living at the shelter and may perform other duties to assist shelter staff. Requires serving a variety of shifts, with probable weekend and evening shifts.
