Class of 2013: A few of our incoming volunteers
The Christian Appalachian Project would like to congratulate all members of the Class of 2013! We're especially excited for those 2013 grads who have answered the call to serve as long-term CAP Volunteers. Below is some information about a few of our new volunteers who are joining the Christian Appalachian Project directly after graduation this summer and fall. More names will be added to our list as we continue to review our applications.
Kelsey B.
Kelsey is joining CAP after graduating from the College of Mount St. Joseph. She previously participated in WorkFest and served as a counselor at Camp Andrew Jackson. She wants "to give back to a community that is in need." Kelsey will be serving in Housing in Jackson County after returning to Camp AJ for the summer.
Anna P.
Anna earned her degree in English from Bellarmine University. She wanted to volunteer because she wants to "do justice work and volunteering seems like the starting point that will work best for me." Anna will be working in Educational and Recreational Programing in Jackson County.
Kaitlyn F.
Originally from Ohio, Kaitlyn attended Bellarmine University. She participated in WorkFest in 2011. She is "excited to lean in a different environment with new people in a creative way." Kaitlin will be serving at the Family Life CDC in Rockcastle County.
Elizabeth H.
Elizabeth graduated from Bellarmine University with a degree in Psychology. After attending WorkFest, she decided to apply to serve with CAP. She wants to "learn what it means to truly be the hands and feet of Christ and live a life selflessly serving others." Elizabeth will be serving at one of our domestic abuse centers.
Theresa is coming to CAP from the University of Notre Dame, where she studied English and Medieval Studies. She is volunteering with CAP because "it will give me so many opportunities to learn and grow". Theresa will be serving in Elderly Services in Rockcastle County.
Celeste F.
Originally from Illinois, Celeste attended Bellarmine University. She participated in WorkFest in 2010. Celeste will be serving at the Family Life CDC in Rockcastle County.
Yujin will be coming to CAP after graduating from Andover High School in Massachusetts. He heard about CAP after his sister attended WorkFest in 2013. He is hoping to learn "how to give back to the community, take a step back, and respect others." He will be serving in Housing in the Sandy Valley Region.
Symmer is joining CAP after graduating from high school in Dallas. She is "hoping to learn from other cultures by living and serving with others outside my comfort zone. Symmer will be serving at the Grateful Bread Food Pantry.
Janet graduated from the University of Notre Dame in May with a degree in Biology. She came to CAP because " I had a poverty stuies minor in college, but I don't think I can really understand what I learned in class without going to do service somewhere and really learning to see the world through the eyes of the poor and marginalized." Janet will be serving at the Grateful Bread Food Pantry.
We encourage you to apply to join our long-term volunteer class this fall. We welcome applications from adults of all ages. Applications accepted until August 16.
