Christian Appalachian Project recognizes Feed the Children as a Champion of Appalachia
BEREA, Ky. — Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) honored Feed the Children as a Champion of Appalachia at its third annual award celebration. Feed the Children has made a significant impact on Central Appalachia and has come alongside CAP for more than 25 years to help people in need in the region.
“CAP’s Operation Sharing Program has many generous gift-in-kind partner charities, but none more generous, impactful, and helpful to our mission, in terms of scope, than Feed the Children,” said Guy Adams, president/CEO of CAP. “Through this award, we want to draw attention to individuals and institutions that have longevity impacting the region, specifically Central Appalachia. Feed the Children has been a valued partner for 11 years.”
The Champions of Appalachia Award recognizes honorees that give strength to the mission of Christian Appalachian Project and raise awareness of the work of CAP in Eastern Kentucky. The award was accepted by Feed the Children President and CEO Travis Arnold.
“Feed the Children’s mission is to provide hope and resources for those without life’s essentials. We strive to achieve our mission every day with the help of our wonderful partners,” Arnold said. “We have an excellent longstanding partnership with CAP’s Operation Sharing because our common goal is to help kids be kids.”
For more than 50 years, CAP has worked in Eastern Kentucky to make a difference in the lives of children and their families, individuals with disabilities and seniors living in poverty. The nonprofit touches the lives of more than 1.5 million people each year directly and indirectly.
“It is an honor to be recognized by CAP for our work in the community,” added Arnold. “Breaking the cycle of poverty and defeating hunger is important to us, and we stand ready to serve the Central Appalachia region however we can.”
The ceremony also celebrated major donors who support the mission of CAP and announced to donors the completion of CAP’s Moving Mountains capital campaign which exceeded its three-year, $68 million goal with total giving of $74 million.
“We have a bold, 30-year vision for Christian Appalachian Project and we are laying the foundation right now to continue to build hope, transform lives, and share Christ’s love through service in Appalachia” Adams added. “CAP has been a living, breathing part of Appalachia, focusing our resources toward the areas of highest priority at any given time, moving to meet the needs of people wherever they are greatest. Through continued partnerships like Feed the Children and the continued generous charitable support from our faithful supporters, we will continue to serve people in need in Appalachia.”
