Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) has received an AmeriCorps grant from Serve Kentucky for the 2018-19 fiscal year. 

AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to address the most critical problems in our nation’s communities. Christian Appalachian Project partners with AmeriCorps to develop new projects, offer services in new areas and offer supplemental services which would not be provided without the service of AmeriCorps Members. AmeriCorps Members serve to provide affordable, safe, warm, and dry housing, decrease food insecurity, meet crisis needs, increase school readiness, and increase greater independence and social support for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers. Members will leverage additional volunteers to assist with housing repair and summer camp.

CAP AmeriCorps Members who successfully complete a required term of service are granted an AmeriCorps Education Award, among other benefits. These can be used 1) To repay qualified existing student loans, 2) To pay all or part of the cost of attending a qualified institution of higher education (including certain vocational programs), and/or 3) To pay expenses incurred while participating in an approved school-to-work program. Members age 55 or older have the option of transferring their Education Award to a child or grandchild.

CAP AmeriCorps Members making a full-time, one-year commitment with CAP will receive an Education Award of up to $4,266 upon successful completion of service. Summer members will receive an award of $1,289. AmeriCorps Members and long-term volunteers with CAP are also eligible to receive a modest stipend, health insurance, professional development opportunities, and room and board in an intentional community.

CAP's long-term volunteers make a one year commitment, short-term volunteers commit to 3 weeks-10 months. To learn more, contact us at volunteer@chrisapp.org.
