LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 24, 2026) – As flooding affects communities across the nation, Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) is responding where the need is emerging, mobilizing emergency supplies through its distribution network to support flood-impacted communities in Kentucky and West Virginia. 

This week, CAP responded to requests from partners serving Eastern Kentucky and the Charleston, West Virginia, area. In Letcher County, Kentucky, CAP is partnering with Hemphill Christian Church to provide families with pallets of food and water, clothing, air mattresses, cleaning supplies, and other critical items following repeated flash flooding. 

“We are grateful for partners like Hemphill Christian Church who are stepping forward to serve neighbors in need,” said Jennifer Stolo, President & CEO of Christian Appalachian Project. “By working together, we can immediately provide families with the supplies they need as they begin the recovery process.” 

Community Bridge, a CAP regional distribution hub in West Virginia, also requested disaster relief supplies for communities in the Charleston area impacted by recent flash flooding and river flooding. On Wednesday, Aug. 19, CAP delivered critical relief supplies, including bottled water, air purifiers, and cleaning supplies. 

The multi-state response demonstrates how established nonprofit distribution networks and local partnerships can help move essential resources quickly as communities face increasingly widespread flooding. CAP is coordinating closely with local leaders and relief partners to assess evolving needs and identify additional opportunities to support recovery efforts across Appalachia. 

“Recovery is not a one-day effort,” Stolo added. “As we learn more about community needs, CAP will continue working alongside local partners to identify opportunities where we can provide additional support. Our goal is to help communities recover today while strengthening resources that will serve families in the weeks and months ahead.”
