CAP partners with Ichthus

Continuing a tradition that began in 2007, CAP once again served as a community sponsor this month of Ichthus, a Christian music festival in Wilmore, Kentucky. CAP participated in the Global Village, a new exhibit that featured international and domestic nonprofits. The theme of Ichthus this year was BeCause, and speakers and artists encouraged youth to bring their faith out into the world by serving the poor and marginalized.  Our involvement was made possible by the many CAP volunteers and friends who volunteered long hours at the festival to help promote CAP's work in Appalachia, including some former summer camp volunteers who had returned to Kentucky for a camp reunion the weekend before.

"Ichthus is always exhausting, but well worth the sleep deprivation," says Amy Schill, CAP's Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator. "Most festival-goers are from Kentucky or the surrounding states, so Ichthus is a great way to raise awareness about poverty happening right in our own backyard. We designed our display to be not only a place where people could learn about CAP, but also an educational area where they can learn about Appalachia and about how they can personally make a difference."

CAP made many new contacts as a result of our participation, and we look forward to building partnerships with churches and providing an opportunity for young people to live out their faith. Thank you to Ichthus and to our wonderful volunteers!
