Camp Caleb love
As you may know, CAP has WorkFest at two sites, one in each our two regions. Because my office is in the Cumberland Valley Region, I've been spending most of my time at Camp AJ's WorkFest, but Camp Caleb is just as awesome. This Wednesday I got to Camp Caleb for the first time this WorkFest. Camp Caleb runs WorkFest just a tad differently than the Camp AJ crew, so it feels a little like the bizarro world, but in a good way.
At Camp AJ, you find affirmation boards: a board for each crew corresponding to their crew color where students can write encouraging notes for one another. The students are not allowed to read their affirmations until they leave WorkFest. Camp Caleb has the same thing, except they're called "warm fuzzy" boards. Camp AJ is famous for the rallying cry, "Can I get a WorkFest?" while Caleb gets students going every morning with spirit fingers and the cry of "Go WorkFest!" But despite some superficial differences, the same Holy Spirit resides at both camps as these students come to learn about Appalachia, each other and themselves throughout the week.
One tradition I love about Camp Caleb's WorkFest is the birdhouses. Housing volunteers build birdhouses to give to each participant homeowner. During WorkFest, students have the opportunity to write messages for the families that they will receive along with the birdhouse at the end of WorkFest. It's a really special gift for the families and a way to rededicate their refurbished homes.
WorkFest is now complete at Camp AJ, but we have one more week to go at Caleb. Can't wait to go back next week! Until then, check out more sights from Camp Caleb WorkFest.
