American Electric Power Foundation Grant Supports Critical Home Repairs

Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) received a $50,000 grant from the American Electric Power Foundation and Kentucky Power for home renovation and repair to help families in need in Appalachia.

“This generous support helps CAP provide essential home repairs throughout the year for low-income families and individuals who may not have the resources or ability to complete those repairs on their own,” said Jennifer Stolo, CAP President & CEO. “Together, we are making homes safe, warm, and dry and better equipped to withstand every season.”

CAP offers year-round home repair assistance to people in need in Eastern Kentucky. Weatherization is a key part of that effort, helping ensure homes stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. As families face rising costs for food, utilities, and other essentials, keeping up with needed home repairs can be difficult. Support from grants, like the one from American Electric Power Foundation, help CAP continue making critical improvements that provide families with greater safety, comfort, and stability.

CAP’s home repair and weatherization efforts reflect Kentucky Power’s commitment to improving quality of life in the communities it serves, including many areas where CAP provides direct services.

“Across the communities Kentucky Power serves, many households face challenges that can make these improvements difficult to achieve on their own,” said Ryan Howell, Kentucky Power external affairs manager. “Investments in home repair and weatherization help create healthier living environments, support seniors and vulnerable residents, and allow families to remain in their homes with greater comfort and dignity.”

For more than 60 years, CAP has worked to make a difference in the lives of children, their families, and seniors living in poverty. CAP is a national nonprofit that impacts the lives of over 2 million people each year across 15 states.

“Kentucky Power is a critical partner that transforms lives in our region through its direct services as well as its investment in the communities it serves,” said Dennis Jacobs, CAP senior foundations officer. “We are proud to have their generous support of our mission.”

Kentucky Power provides service to approximately 162,000 customers. It is a unit of American Electric Power (AEP) system, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, serving 5.6 million customers in 11 states. AEP ranks among the nation’s largest generators of electricity and owns the nation’s largest electricity transmission system.

The Foundation is funded by AEP and its utility operating companies, including Kentucky Power. The Foundation strives to improve the quality of life for people in the communities where AEP and its operating units serve and where AEP employees live and work.
