Volunteer Program Staff

Amblyn Allen, Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator

Amblyn got her first CAP volunteer experience at WorkFest, CAP’s alternative spring break for college students. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Environmental Science, Amblyn served in Outreach Services from 2005 to 2007. The California native joined the Volunteer Program as a recruitment coordinator in June 2007. She helps to coordinate all recruitment activities and enjoys talking to prospective volunteers about CAP’s many volunteer opportunities.

Kathy Kluesener, Volunteer Admissions Coordinator

This Massachusetts native was a volunteer with Father Beiting in the 1970s, during which she met her husband, Tony.  A CAP employee since 1980, Kathy has served in many CAP programs as a volunteer and employee, including Summer Camp and Community Grants. Kathy guides prospective volunteers through the admissions process and is happy to answer any questions.

Jen Eich, Volunteer Groups Coordinator, Cumberland Valley Region

Jen grew up in Grand Haven, Michigan, and volunteered with CAP for two years in Elderly and Outreach Services. Jen is the newest member of the Volunteer Program, joining our staff in July 2007 after serving for two years as the coordinator of CAP’s Substance Abuse Recovery Center. Jen coordinates and hosts the many groups who serve in the Cumberland Valley Region.

Kathleen Leavell, Manager, Recruitment, Admissions, and Placement

Kathleen, also from Massachusetts, rejoined the Volunteer Program in April 2007 after working in CAP’s Development office for three years. She previously worked as a volunteer recruiter. Kathleen has been a part of CAP for more than 30 years, beginning as a volunteer in 1976, when she had the pleasure and curse of volunteering with Kathy Kluesener.

Amy Schill, Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator

Amy, who joined the Volunteer Program in June 2006, is originally from San Antonio, Texas. She first came to CAP through WorkFest, and traveled with Amblyn to WorkFest back in 2002.  After graduating from Notre Dame Amy, volunteered with Outreach Services from 2003 to 2005. Now Amy and Amblyn are together again in the Volunteer Program. Amy is willing to fight Amblyn to have the opportunity to answer your questions.

Brenda Thornton, Technician

Brenda has been a CAP employee for more than 20 years, but she has been part of the CAP family for much longer. Brenda grew up in Lancaster, Kentucky and attended Camp Andrew Jackson as a child. In addition to the Volunteer Program, Brenda has also worked in CAP’s Housing Program, Accounting and Human Resources. Brenda’s lovely voice is usually the first one you will hear when you call the Volunteer Program office.

Harold Underwood, Manager, Volunteer Life and Groups, Sandy Valley Region

A Kentucky native, Harold worked at Oneida Baptist Institute before joining CAP in 2003. In addition to overseeing volunteers in the Sandy Valley Region, Harold also schedules and coordinates the many church and school groups who come to volunteer for CAP, and he would be happy to talk to you about bringing a mission team to eastern Kentucky.

Kiara West, Manager, Volunteer Life and WorkFest, Cumberland Valley Region

A Wisconsin native, Kiara served as a volunteer Outreach Services caseworker from 2000 to 2002. She joined the Volunteer Program as an employee in 2003. Kiara’s husband Charles is also a former CAP volunteer, and she’s recruited her three younger siblings to be volunteers as well. Kiara oversees volunteer life in the Cumberland Valley Region and also manages CAP’s alternative spring break for college students.
