Respite Services

Statistics show on average, that 20% of Americans have some form of disability. But in many of the Appalachian counties we work in, that number can be as high as 25%. The impact on the individual and their family is further compounded if they live in poverty and in a rural area where services are few or nonexistent. CAP offers a wide array of services through four specific programs that support the specific needs of children and adults with disabilities and their families.

Respite services provide parents and caregivers an opportunity to have some time on their own, whether it be to run errands or simply relax. Therapeutic, social and recreational activities are provided both in the home and in the center. Assistance with personal care is given as needed, including bathing, toileting, changing clothes, feeding and medication distribution. The residential portion of the program requires working a variety of shifts, two Saturdays a month, and occasional holidays.

Rainbow Respite

With the aim of crisis prevention, the Rainbow Respite Care Center provides respite to families and caregivers who have family members with disabilities. CAP's emphasis is to promote healthier family situations by encouraging periodic respite, allowing time for personal renewal, rest and relaxation.

By providing a safe, comfortable environment, leading by example and promoting self-advocacy, those who stay at the center are encouraged to be independent and improve their mental, social, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.

In collaboration with other agencies and CAP programs, participants and their family members are offered the most comprehensive services and choices to help foster educational recreational and spiritual opportunities.

Rejoice Respite

Rejoice Respite is committed to serving and supporting families in their care of a family member with a physical or mental disability and/or condition by providing in-home respite, emotional support and resource information. The Rejoice Respite Program is an expression of Christian concern for the health and dignity of every person whatever their emotional, spiritual, financial or physical status. It is our belief that providing respite in the home to the primary care-giver of a family member who requires continuous supervision and care because of a physical or mental condition provides relief and strengthens the family. Further, it is our belief that the participants are also refreshed because of the new conversation, ideas, sharing, prayers, scripture readings, etc., that the respite provider shares with them.
