In the majority of counties we serve, more than one third of the population lives in poverty, and when crisis hits, they often need a helping hand to get through the tough times. CAP helps people by addressing immediate physical and emotional needs. Every year, assistance is provided to thousands of individuals and families in various stages of crisis.
Working in conjunction with Family Life Counseling, the program is able to offer individual and family counseling to participants. They are also able to increase their educational and work skills through inclusion in the Adult Education and School on Wheels services.
Short-term emergency assistance is available to people needing food, utilities, shelter, medical needs, household goods, clothes, textbooks and fees. Family Advocacy (Formerly Outreach Services) seeks to lesson the brunt of poverty through a variety of other special assistance programs:
Christmas Basket
Gifts from donors are distributed to participants during the holiday season.
School Readiness
School supplies and a new outfit are given to more than 1,000 disadvantaged children in the Appalachian region.
