Long-Term Volunteering

A long-term CAP volunteer is one that is available to dedicate nine months or more of their time and talents. This program is for people who are able to work at more comprehensive service programs. While no special skills are needed, training for some programs is necessary and personal interviews with the volunteer program staff are required.

The benefits of long-term volunteering are the same as they are with any volunteering effort; unique experiences, heartfelt connections made with people and families and the lessons learned within one’s self. Some additional benefits are available as well, including free room and board, a monthly stipend , loan deferments, AmeriCorps Education Awards, two spiritual retreats a year and potential health benefits. For more specific details, please click on the respective links.

  • Have the willingness to share in community life
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Desire to serve others
  • Have a complete driving records check, three personal references and a national background check

  • Educational and Recreational Programming

This list represents the programs in greatest need of volunteers, but there are many other programs that need volunteers. If there is not a program here of interest to you, please contact the Volunteer Program office. An application process is required.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions.

Community Living
Living with others who share the same beliefs is comforting and reassuring, but learning about and understanding housemates can be a great deal of fun. CAP offers housing and accommodations for living the volunteer life and making new friends along the way.

Independent Living
Living in a community setting may not be for everyone. To be as accommodating as possible, CAP provides an independent living alternative. Available to volunteers who are married, are 50 years of age and older, or who prefer to live on their own, this option includes a modest food and living stipend and potential health benefits. Please contact the volunteer program office for more information.

Spirituality
CAP is an interdenominational organization that encourages people to share their faith and express it by their actions. Personal spiritual growth is an integral part of the CAP volunteer experience, and to foster a spiritual environment, volunteers gather for prayer and reflection after weekday dinners.

Service
