Hands-On Change. For Good.
Get Involved > Group Volunteer Opportunities

Information & Requirements

Please note the requirements and information below for group volunteers:

Age

  • We have opportunities for various group sizes
  • Youth participants ages 14 and up are accepted, but an adult age 25 or older for every four people under 18 years of age is required (please inquire about children under 12)
  • No particular skill level is required. A willingness to come, serve and be tired at the end of the day is what we are looking for in a volunteer.

Spirituality

  • CAP is a Christian organization and expects all volunteers to respect the guidelines and conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner
  • All group members will need to attend the mid-week service at the host church (if you are housed at a church). If you are not staying in a church you are encouraged to attend the mid-week service at a local church of your choice.
  • Group members will need to plan on leading a devotion/prayer time three evenings during the week and members must participate in the scheduled daily devotions and prayer gatherings

Transportation

  • You will need to provide your own transportation to Kentucky
  • You will need to provide your own transportation to and from scheduled job sites

Accommodations

  • CAP makes all arrangements for accommodations from Sunday to Friday
  • Your group may be staying in a church, recreation facility, CAP volunteer house or camp
  • You will be sleeping on air mattresses, cots or similar bedding - larger groups will need to bring their own bedding to sleep on. All groups need to bring sheets, pillow, towel, etc.
  • A shower or a shower trailer will be available
  • CAP asks all group members to help out in any way possible with cooking and cleaning during your stay

Costs

  • The cost for participation is $30.00 per person per night to cover expenses for room and board. Example: 10 people x $30.00 per person x 5 nights = $1500.00.
  • Payment is due 45 days prior to your group’s scheduled arrival. Payment not received could cause your group to be canceled and the week reserved to be offered to another group on our waiting list.
  • Payment is due upon arrival. Please bring one check for the entire group made payable to Christian Appalachian Project.

Arrival

  • Groups will need to arrive late Sunday afternoon. You will need to plan on eating prior to your arrival, as dinner is not provided that evening
  • CAP will set an arrival time after you confirm dates for your group
  • You will need to attend the host church’s evening service upon arrival Sunday (if staying at a Church)

Departure

  • The time of departure will vary depending on the facility where you are staying, but will be on the Friday after arrival and will be made upon confirmation of your mission trip
  • We ask that your group help clean the accommodations that have been used during the week
  • We hope that you will leave tired but blessed from your week of service!

Projects:

  • Groups may assist in our Housing Program. Volunteer’s work may include, but is not limited to, remodeling an existing home by repairing the floors and walls, hanging dry wall, replacing doors and windows, putting up vinyl siding, repairing roofs, building a porch/handicap ramp or other various needed repairs. We also build new houses, and may use the team on these job sites as well.
  • Groups may assist in our Elderly and Respite Programs; volunteers serve by doing small minor home repairs, cleaning, painting, etc. for some of our participants that may have no other means to get repairs and cleaning done around their home.
  • Groups may assist in needed repairs and maintenance to some of our own CAP facilities in order that we may better serve our participants here in Appalachia.
    • Please notify us if anyone in your group has a particular skill or talent that they would be willing to use while here with us. We can't guarantee that we would use them in that area, but would like to if the opportunity were there.

Individual Information

  • In order to provide appropriate accommodations, meals and assignments for our projects, an official list of participant names and related information is due 45 days in advance prior to arrival along with your payment

Group Leader(s)

  • Leader(s) will be responsible to educate all participating group members about CAP, our expectations of volunteers and our mission. This can be achieved by reviewing materials provided through this office.
