History |
Colleges were then invited to participate, and that first year, more than 100 volunteers came. Being such a great success, service areas were expanded, students were housed at multiple locations and the name WorkFest came to be. CAP has been a true innovator for alternative spring break programs. So much so, that the phrase has taken off to a national level and WorkFest boasts hundreds of college students each year, repairing up to 16 houses in a three week time period.

WorkFest has been around for decades, but only recently, has been called so and has been the organized event it is now. In the 1970s, a handful of colleges would inquire about sending students to volunteer at CAP, and usually a group of 10 students would end up participating. Based on this, a CAP employee had the idea of turning this event into a “hands on” way to live out the gospel and learn more about Appalachia at the same time.
