Hands-On Change. For Good.
Get Involved > WorkFest

History

WorkFest has been around for decades, but only recently, has been called so and has been the organized event it is now. In the 1970s, a handful of colleges would inquire about sending students to volunteer at CAP, and usually a group of 10 students would end up participating. Based on this, a CAP employee had the idea of turning this event into a “hands on” way to live out the gospel and learn more about Appalachia at the same time.

Colleges were then invited to participate, and that first year, more than 100 volunteers came. Being such a great success, service areas were expanded, students were housed at multiple locations and the name WorkFest came to be.

CAP has been a true innovator for alternative spring break programs. So much so, that the phrase has taken off to a national level and WorkFest boasts hundreds of college students each year, repairing up to 16 houses in a three week time period.
