Elderly Services

Elderly Services tends to basic necessities such as home visitation, transportation, social activities, prescription assistance and various other services.  These activities ease the effects of isolation and allow homebound or ill senior citizens to remain in their homes longer.

With Appalachian youth leaving the area to seek employment, many elderly find themselves without family or with limited support systems available. Isolation becomes a real factor and lack of transportation makes even the simplest of tasks – visiting friends or picking up groceries – a hurdle to overcome. Poverty and illness only compound the problem.

CAP has long been concerned over these issues, so a visitation program was one of the earliest programs offered. Today, CAP operates programs that combine visitation with other support activities. Rejoice Respite offers periodic respite to families who are caring for homebound or ill family members. With the growing elderly population in Appalachia and the reduction in other public assistance programs, the needs of this population is on the rise.
