Hands-On Change. For Good.
Who We Serve > Children and Their Families

Parents Are Teachers

This is a home-based, early intervention program for infants and children with defined disabilities, developmental delays or who are considered ‘at risk’ for delays. With the philosophy that ‘the parent is the child’s best teacher,’ the staff focuses on providing education to the parents on ways to actively engage their child in social, cognitive, sensory and motor development skills.

Parents Are Teachers provides education to families concerning their rights as parents of child(ren) with disabilities, and supports them in advocating for themselves and their child. Families are also taught the importance of their role in their child’s learning/progress while learning to provide activities and methods that support and encourage involvement.

Families are assisted in planning and developing goals that foster and enhance their child’s skill development by utilizing the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) process. Children are allowed to develop skills that allow them to be at their full potential through the provision of appropriate testing and developmental interventions.

Additionally, the community is made more aware of the importance of early intervention benefiting children with disabilities and their families.
