Hands-On Change. For Good.
Operation Sharing

History

In 1986, then VP of development for CAP, Bill Begley received a phone call from an associate at the National Federation of Non-profits. They were asking if CAP would be interested in receiving a donation of children’s books. After traveling to Virginia to see the books, Bill realized he could not turn this offer down. Presenting the situation to the board of directors, they accepted the offer and spent the money necessary to house the books and the employ workers needed to distribute them.

The name, Operation Sharing, is based on a philosophy that donations would be shared and would promote CAP’s practice of collaboration in the Appalachian region. It is important to note however, that Operation Sharing isn’t just about things, dollars or numbers, it’s about relationships. Without these relationships, there would be nothing – it is the key to the success of the program.
