Natural disasters come without warning, oftentimes leaving communities to recover without state or federal assistance for up to three days. To help alleviate this, the Corporate Crisis Response Officers Association recently launched the Essential Public Network (EPN), which works with community resources, such as CAP, and local, state and federal emergency responders to coordinate more immediate relief efforts.
According to www.thebreakingnews.com, “The EPN is a web-based information-sharing portal which can be designed to meet the specific needs of the community using it, officials said. The information being passed through the portal is secure; voice, data, imaging and video can be shared and disseminated.”
CAP was part of the National Press Club conference in Washington D.C. Local, state and federal emergency management agency representatives and their fellow corporations and non-profits gathered for the event.
Asa Hutchinson, National Advisory Board Chair for CCROA (Corporate Crisis Response Officers Association) and former Under Secretary for Homeland Security and Bill MillsNational Advisory Board Chairman and Former Homeland Security Undersecretary Asa Hutchinson, hosted the conference. He expressed the need for local businesses, corporations and non-profit organizations to share information and help coordinate their response.
Bill Mills, CAP’s CEO was a speaker, and Sherry Buresh, CAP’s Disaster Relief program director had a front row seat for the event.
Bill reinforced that what drives local relief efforts is a desire to engage and improve community preparedness and response capabilities, "The government has an obvious and primary role to play in a crisis response situation. But so does the local business sector and community relief efforts. ... Our mission is to arm these leaders - the ones on the ground during those initial daunting hours - with the tools they need during an emergency situation."
