January is Poverty in America Awareness Month
January is Poverty in America Awareness month, and there’s no better way to start off the new year than by helping those in need. Nearly 38 million Americans, and one in six children, live below the poverty line.
But in Appalachia, the 22 million people who live in the more than 400 counties that make up the region live in higher poverty rates, have lower education levels and have limited health care when compared to the rest of the nation.
Here’s 4 ways you can help fight poverty in Appalachia:
- Learn more about Appalachia and how poverty affects the region.
- Share what you’ve learned with your friends and family.
- Join CAP’s online community on Facebook.
- Make a donation to Christian Appalachian Project.
