Volunteer Program Announces 2017-2018 Admissions Timeline

Submitted by jobrien on Fri, 06/09/2017 - 15:02

Christian Appalachian Project welcomes AmeriCorps members and long-term (one year) volunteers in January, June, August, and October. Our preference is for individuals to begin in August, but other entry dates are offered for those with alternate availability.

Applications for long-term service are accepted according to the timeline below, with on-site interviews conducted during designated interview periods. We encourage applicants to apply early enough so that if selected to interview they would have ample time to make travel arrangements to Kentucky. We strongly recommend the on-site interview, as having the opportunity to share in dinner and devotion in a volunteer community, meet various program managers, and possibly spend some time serving in a program will greatly aid in the discernment process. If an on-site interview is not possible, interviews can be conducted by Skype (or in rare cases, by phone) at any time during the admissions process.

Application Process

Although late applications will be considered, interested candidates are strongly encouraged to submit their completed application (including application form, three references, and essay) on or before the priority application date in order to receive top consideration for interviews and potential service placement. Candidates will be notified no later than two weeks after the receipt of their completed application if they will be invited for an interview.

Interview Process

Option One (preferred): On-site interview

On-site interviews are one to three days long and consist of at least one dinner and devotion in a CAP Volunteer Community, an interview with the Admissions Coordinator, and interviews with two or three program managers. Whenever possible, applicants will spend part of their visit serving in a program or shadowing a current volunteer.

Option Two: Skype/Phone interviews

Applicants interview with Admissions Coordinator, then with two or three program managers. This interview option typically takes place over the course of one to three weeks. Skype interviews may take place at any time after we have reviewed your completed application.

Candidates will be notified as soon as possible after their final interview whether or not they will be offered a placement with CAP.

To Whom It May Concern, I am interested in information on applying for long term volunteer opportunities with CAP. I understand that the projects are typically a year long and the next ones begin in October. I am interested in knowing if there could be an opportunity to begin the volunteer work and complete the experience in time to start college in the Fall of 2018. Thank you for your assistance.
