Hands-On Change. For Good.
Who We Serve > The Elderly

Center-Based Services

On May 18, 2007 at 1:00 p.m., groundbreaking ceremonies for Christian Appalachian Project’s new 6,000 sq. ft. Sandy Valley respite and elderly center took place at Hagerhill, Kentucky. The center will offer respite and emotional support to families with individuals who require constant care. This allows the opportunity for socializing, educational opportunities and Christian fellowship to participants who may otherwise go without.

Many of CAP’s elderly participants are unable to cook for themselves and do not have family members who can help. Although enrolled to receive food from Meals On Wheels, special dietary requirements cannot be met, leaving too many underweight. The center will be able to provide hot meals to participants with special needs. The additional benefits will be social opportunities and activities to alleviate loneliness and depression.

Participants with special mental or physical needs who cannot attend other centers will be a focus of the center. Future plans include day programs with the goal of offering weeklong programs.
