Urgent and Upcoming Volunteer Needs

Christian Appalachian Project (CAP), whose mission is to build hope, transform lives, and share Christ's love through service in Appalachia, has a critical need for volunteers to serve in our Summer Camp and Long-term (one year) programs in Eastern Kentucky.

Summer Camp

We have an urgent need for individuals to serve on staff at our Summer Camps this June and July. Over the course of the summer, Camp AJ and Camp Shawnee expect to serve more than 1,000 children from families in need. Our camps provide traditional activities like hiking, swimming, arts and crafts, boating, and fishing, all the while weaving through instruction and modeling of important leadership traits including friendship, independence, teamwork, and responsibility. There are a variety of roles needing filled including kitchen/office help, arts and crafts, camp counselors, lifeguards, nurses, and photography/social media coordinators. The minimum commitment is just three weeks (one week for medical personnel) and room and board is provided on site. Travel reimbursement is also available. Join volunteers from all over the country in transforming lives!

Long-term (One Year)

Are you called to the mountains? We are currently accepting applications to join our August long-term volunteer cohort. CAP long-term volunteers make a commitment of one year to our program pillars of Service, Community, and Spirituality. Volunteers address issues related to rural poverty and marginalization such as substandard housing, hunger, education, and elderly and disability support. We welcome dedicated individuals of all ages (18+) and backgrounds to apply!

Most volunteers live in intentional community, making a regular commitment to share meals and reflect on their experiences together, while other volunteers choose to find their own housing within the communities we serve. CAP provides room and board (for those who live in community), health insurance, travel reimbursement, a modest stipend, retreat opportunities, and time off to recharge and reconnect with friends and family. Those serving as AmeriCorps members may be eligible for an Education Award of up to $4,144 for use towards student loans or future education exenses (individuals age 55 or older may be able to transfer this award to a child or grandchild). All volunteers are encouraged in their roles by dedicated support staff and may choose to engage in professional development opportunities.

For anyone passionate about making a difference for families in need – why wait? Take the leap, step out in faith, and apply today! If you’d like to learn more, simply fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch shortly.
