The Cross You Built

The cross was built by individual wood chips sent in by donorsAt Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) we are always looking for ways to encourage and inspire our participants, volunteers, and staff. We were able to do this with the help of some of our most loyal supporters.

Last year, CAP sent out a special appeal letter to our donors. In the mailing we included a 2 x 2-inch piece of wood. We asked that our supporters return the wood chip with a prayer, words of encouragement, or with their signature written on it.

The response that we received was amazing. It was truly heartwarming to look through the all the baskets of wood chips that were returned.  The messages and prayers that were written showed how much our supporters love the people that we serve in Appalachia.

Following are a few of these messages:

“Be kind, be good, keep praying and the Lord will provide. We are praying for you.”

“Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by him. God Bless you all.”

“The Lord is always with you”

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5”

“Please be brave and trust in our Lord. You are loved.”

“The Lord is with you always let not your hearts be troubled.”

With the wood chips that were returned, CAP was able to build a 6-foot cross. This cross serves as a beautiful and inspirational reminder of all of our friends near and far that are helping us fulfill our mission in Appalachia.

Currently this magnificent cross is proudly displayed in Christian Appalachian Project’s Lexington office. It serves as a symbol of hope and faith to all of the participants, employees, and volunteers that enter our offices.

Thank you to everyone who received and returned a wood chip. Your kind words are truly inspirational. Thank you for helping fulfill CAP’s mission of building hope, transforming lives, and sharing Christ’s love through service in Appalachia.
